近世フランスにおける「ジャンセニスム」をめぐって引き起こされた宗教論争に関する研究をおこなった。とりわけ、争点となった「恭しい沈黙」という態度に注目することで、十七世紀から十八世紀にかけての論争の総体を視野に収めることが可能となった。この研究により、ジャンセニウスの遺著『アウグスティヌス』 (1640) の出版がフランス王権やローマ教皇庁を巻き込む一大事件に発展する過程が理解されるとともに、その過程で繰り広げられた信と不可謬性をめぐる論争の内実が明らかにされた。 We undertook a study of the religious controversy about 'Jansenism' in early modern France. The special focus on the attitude called 'Respectful Silence', a major point of contention, enabled us to cover the whole polemic from the 17th to the 18th century. As a result of this research the process was found by which the publication of Jansenius's Augustinus (1640) lead to an affair involving the French Monarchy and the Roman Curia, as well as informing the content of theological disputes regarding notions of faith and infallibility.
