大脳皮質の興奮性神経細胞は脳室面近くで産生されたのち放射状に移動し、脳表面に平行な多層構造を作る。この層構造は、移動終点にある細胞から分泌されるリーリン分子が欠損すると全体として逆転するが、リーリンの作用機序はよくわかっていなかった。本研究では、リーリンが神経細胞に直接作用して、N-カドヘリン依存的な相互接着を一過的に促進することを見出し、確かに正常脳では脳表面直下に細胞が縦に並んだクラスターが形成されることを示した。 In the developing cerebral cortex, excitatory neurons are generated near the ventricle and migrate radially to form a layered structure near the brain surface. Reelin, which is secreted near the brain surface, is essential for this layer formation, because Reelin deficiency causes almost inverted layering. However, Reelin function on migrating neurons is not fully understood. In this study, we found that Reelin directly promotes N-cadherin-dependent adhesion among neurons transiently. Indeed, we observed clusters of immature neurons near the surface of normal cortices.
