本研究の目的は，拡張／複合現実感用の光学シースルー型HMD (OST-HMD) における実シーン及び仮想物体間に生じるコントラスト差の不整合を，主にソフトウェア的および心理学的アプローチにより解決することである．本研究では，明／暗順応などの人の目の特性を考慮して利用者に気づかれないように外光遮蔽の減衰率を制御することにより，あたかもハードウェアの性能限界を超えて高輝度に仮想物体を知覚させる錯覚現象を確認し，これを実時間制御するための外光遮蔽機構と疑似ハイコントラスト描画性能を備えるOST-HMDの試作・実証実験を通して，上記不整合の解決法の実現可能性や限界を明らかにした． The goal of this study is to mitigate inconsistency in contrast between real and virtual objects seen through an optical see-through head-mounted display (OST-HMD) by software and psychological approaches. The key idea of such approach is to continuously adjust the opacity of controllable optical visor such as liquid crystal (LC) filters to dim the environment light and to utilize dark adaptation not to let the users becoming aware of the change of the light attenuation. Consequently, virtual content appears to be brighter for the user. User studies and results using a prototype OST-HMD attached with controllable LC visors demonstrated the phenomenon and clarified limitations of the proposed approach.
