本稿では、総合政策学の本質は各種課題を解決していくうえで広義の「実践」を行なうことにある、という認識にたって二つの実践例をやや詳細に記述するとともに、実践活動の位置づけおよび大学ないし研究者の位置づけを行なった。実践例の一つは、少子高齢化社会における安定居住を支援する仕組みに関するものであり、従来の多くの公共政策分野や関連組織を集合して居住政策という新しい問題対応システムを構成することを提言し、またその実践状況、研究成果、今後の研究課題について述べた（大江が担当している事例）。いま一つの実践例は、徐々にではあるが確実に多言語多文化化する日本社会における言語政策のあり方に関するものであり、その実践活動と成果を取りまとめた（平高が担当している事例）。二つの例とも、大学がいわば「中間支援組織」として大きな役割を持つ必要性と可能性を示唆している。
