本稿では、まず、国家レベルで操作されることの多かった言語政策という概念が、近年の社会の多言語多文化化とともに、アクターが多様化し、社会のさまざまなレベルで議論の対象になっていることを述べる。次に、これまで主として社会言語学を中心とする言語研究の枠組みの中で論じられることの多かった言語政策に関する問題を、総合政策学的な視点から論じることの有用性を、学校教育や社会教育の場における外国籍住民の支援についての具体的な実践例を挙げて論じる。最後に、総合政策学としての言語政策の今後の課題と可能性に触れ、研究者の役割や他の領域への応用可能性などについて論じる。
