本稿は、通訳者が異文化間コミュニケーションの領域で業務を行うことについての研究である。一般的に通訳業務とは、異なる言語の話者間で言語変換作業を行うことであるとされ、通訳者には中立な立場で本人の意見や考えは入れず、クライアントの発言内容のみを訳すことが求められる。しかし、異言語間コミュニケーションだけに注目し、文化を考慮しないと、意図する内容が伝わらなかったり、誤って受け取られ、話が意図しない方向に発展する可能性もある。このような誤解やコンフリクトを回避できれば、ヒューマンセキュリティの確保にもつながる。本稿では、商談などの会議や研修等、ビジネスの現場に的を絞り、通訳者の役割を異文化間コミュニケーションの領域まで拡大することにより、クライアント間のコミュニケーションの改善が可能であることを主張する。
