本稿では、成熟社会において個人が感じる生活上の不安が、個々人の個別的且つ情緒的な課題ではなく、高度に近代化した社会に共通する人間生活一般の不安定化の表徴であることを明らかにすることを目的とする。特に、20世紀の四半後期に顕著になってきた個人化（ウルリッヒ・ベックによる指摘）という現象が、既存の社会関係の変容を促し、個人に対して自らの人生を組織化することを強制する点に注目する。この過程で、個人にとって解決すべき課題の認識は、社会集団が持つ生活様式や規範からではなく、自らが感じる不安をリスクへと変換することを通じて行われる。そのため、個人が感じる不安をいかに社会的な課題として問題化するか、ということが政治的な課題となることを検討する。
