沖縄県石垣市の白保竿根田原洞穴遺跡（白保遺跡）から出土した2万年以上前にさかのぼる人骨資料のうち、最初に発見された頭骨である1号頭骨について、デジタルデータを利用した復元作業を進めた。4個体分ある頭骨のうちもっとも残存部位が少ないためデジタル復元は困難であったが、沖縄県立埋蔵文化財センターにて保管されている実物資料と適宜対応を確認しながら復元を進め、3次元プリンターによる出力は装置の故障のためできなかったが、復元そのものは概ね完了した。その結果、1号頭骨はこれまでに復元が完了している2号・3号・4号の各頭骨とはまた異なる形状であることなどが示唆された。 The Shiraho 1 skull is one of the four well-preserved human skulls recovered from the Pleistocene site, Shiraho-Saonetabaru, Ishigaki Island, Okinawa Prefecture. In this project all the fragments of the skull were digitized using serial micro-CT scan data, and the original shape of the skull was reconstructed digitally. The morphology of the Shiraho 1 skull is shown to be little different from that of the previously reconstructed Shiraho 4 skull.
