本研究では、高い空間分解能を有する300GHz以上の周波数の電磁波（テラヘルツ波）を手指に照射してその反射波形を解析することで、人のジェスチャを検出することを目指した。具体的には、導波路から空中に指向性放射が生じる構造を作製し、周波数を掃引することでビームをステアリングしながらレーダ計測を行えるようにした。まず、放射パターンの測定を行い、周波数によってビーム方向が変わることを実験的に確認した。そしてその結果が理論的な解析結果と一致することを確認した。次に、実験の第一段階として、指先と同程度の径を有する金属棒を用意して、レーダの前方に設置した際にその距離と方向が検出可能であることを確かめた。なお、このとき周波数帯域によっては導波路損失が大きくなり、現在のデバイスを用いる以上検出が困難となる領域が存在することを明らかにした。次に、AD変換器によってコンピュータ中に取り込まれた数値データをクラスタリングするために機械学習アルゴリズムを用いることを試みた。まず、金属棒の本数を変えながら反射波形を繰り返し取得し、モデルの学習を行った。それに基づき、指の本数を正しく推定できることを確かめた。次に、指の本数を変えながら反射波形を繰り返し取得し、モデルの学習を行った。それに基づき、指の本数を正しく推定できることを確かめた。 In this study, we aimed at detecting human gesture by analyzing the reflected waveform of terahertz waves with a frequency above 300 GHz, which is expected to show high spatial resolution. We fabricated a waveguide-based device that directionally emits the waves into free-space, where the directivity is variable by sweeping the frequency. We firstly measured the radiation pattern of the device and confirmed that the experiment agrees with theory. We next placed a metal rod in front of the device and confirmed that its position can be extracted by analyzing the acquired waveform. In the meantime, we observed that a certain frequency band involves high waveguide losses and makes the detection in the corresponding region difficult. Based on those preliminary results, we employed machine learning algorithms to distinguish different states in the scene. As a first step, we used the same metal rod as above. We made the model learn the reflected signals while changing the number of the rods. We then confirmed that the established model can correctly predict the number of the rods in the unknown scene. We finally replaced the rod with fingers and also confirmed that the model can learn and predict the correct number of fingers in the scene.
