2018年度の研究について、大きな成果が一点ある。D・H・ロレンスの書いた最も宗教性に富む短編小説'A Dream of Life'の草稿を精査し、権威あるCambridge University版D・H・ロレンス全集に収められた同作品テキストに見られる数多のあやまりを指摘し、同時に正しいテキストを自ら作った本文校訂の論文が英米のロレンス研究者の間で高い評価を受け、イギリスの学会誌The Journal of D. H. Lawrence Studies (December, 2018)に掲載された。50頁近い長さになる同作品に関する網羅的な論考で、序と概観、Cambridge University版の誤りの指摘、それにとって代わる決定版となる武藤版の掲載、武藤版のTextual Apparatus、ロレンスの草稿ノートにある破りとられたテキスト断片の写しから成る。なお、その際に、自筆草稿、タイプ原稿の写し、初版、ペンギン版、ケンブリッジ大学出版局版、そして武藤版と、6種類のテキストの比較精査が必要となり、学生そして卒業生に手伝ってもらったため、元々の研究計画にはなかった謝金が生じたが、これは、本研究の成果を広く世界に発信するための必要経費とお考えいただきたい。その他は準備的な作業で、チャールズ・テイラーの著書をはじめとして、現代性と宗教性に関するさまざまな研究書、「スピリチュアリティ」研究、宗教史研究、宗教的文学研究、主体性の研究、そしてロレンス研究とバランスよく、それなりに充実した資料収集ができたのではないかと自負している。これらの資料を活用して、次年度も継続される本研究の発展に生かし、さらにロレンスを広い現代性のなかで位置づけてゆきたいと思っている。 My new critical edition of one of D.H.Lawrence's most religous story, 'A Dream of Life [An Autobiographical Fragment],' was published in a British journal devoted to the study of D. H. Lawrece, The Journal of D. H. Lawrence Studies. As the Journal suggests, this edition is an important contribution to the International Lawrence studies, replacing the authoritative but erroneous Cambridge University Press edition of the same story.
