• Note (General): type:text; 本研究の完遂には3年度の期間を予定しており，その初年度である本年度は次の３点を実施する計画であった． １．海外の世界的権威を訪問して彼らの研究状況を把握するとともに本研究について議論する． ２．回転する円筒剛体の運動を解析的に求め，数値計算専用のＰＣを導入してそれらの結果を数値的に検証する． ３．実験用の円筒剛体を作製する． １に関する実績として，2018年8月にキース・モファット氏（ケンブリッジ大学名誉教授），2019年３月にロッド・クロス氏（シドニー大学名誉教授）を訪問した．モファット教授は，回転円筒に関する研究は当時実施していなかったが，それに関連する回転や振動する物体の並進運動に関する議論を行い，さらには興味深い力学系の解析を進めた．その研究上，複数の振動物理量のわずかな位相差が驚くべき運動を誘導することを認識し，回転円筒の研究につながる有意義な示唆を得た．一方，クロス教授はまさに回転円筒の動力学を実験的に研究しており，彼自身や他の研究者による最新の研究成果を知ることができた．また，本研究の計画を伝えたところ，彼自身の興味と一致する部分が多く，共同研究を開始することになった．そして，これまで懸案だった重要な課題が彼との議論を通して解決したことは，大きな成果であった． ２については，軸対称回転物体の運動方程式に基づき，回転円筒剛体の定常状態を解析的に求めた．そして新たに導入したPCを用いて，その定量的性質を明らかにすることができた．その一例として，中身のある円筒と中空の円筒の力学的性質は大きく異なることを見出した． ３については時間と労力の制約により実施することができなかったが，ビデオカメラを導入して，すでに所有している回転する円筒，ディスク，リング運動の動画を撮影し，実験的観測を開始した． 以上のように，本年度は研究計画の大部分を完遂することができ，本研究が大いに前進した． This research project is planned to be finished in three years, and in this first academic year, the following three objectives were going to be done. 1. Visiting world authorities oversea, grasping their current research and discussing about the present research. 2. Obtaining analytically the expressions for the motion of spinning cylinders, introducing a PC especially for numerical calculations, and validating the analytical results. 3. Crafting solid cylinders for experiments. As for 1, I visited Keith Moffatt (Professor Emeritus, University of Cambridge) in August 2018, and Rod Cross (Professor Emeritus, University of Sydney) in March 2019. Professor Moffatt were not carrying out the research about the dynamics of spinning cylinders at that time. However, we discussed about the translational motion of rotating or oscillating bodies and analysed an interesting dynamical system, which made me realise a little phase lag between the oscillations of physical quantities may induce an amazing motion and gave me significant suggestions for advancing the study of spinning cylinders. Professor Cross, on the other hand, has been just carrying out the experiments about the dynamics of spinning cylinders, and I got from him the latest research findings of Cross and others. I told him that I am in charge of the present research, then he got interested in it, which initiated our collaboration in the research of dynamics of spinning cylinders. Through the discussion with him, I also got a big outcome to solve a crucial problem suspended. As for 2, I analytically derived steady states of spinning rigid cylinders from the system of equations of motion for axisymmetric bodies. Furthermore, by using a PC newly installed, I got their quantitative evaluations. An example of its results is that the dynamical features of solid and hollow cylinders are quite different from each other. As for 3, I could not put it in practice due to the restrictions of my time and labor for research, but I filmed the motions of spinning cylinders, disks, rings owned by the video camera newly installed, and started to experimentally observe the motion. As stated above, I carried out most parts of the research projects planned in this academic year, and succeeded in advancing the present study a lot.
