• Note (General): type:text; 本研究の目的は，世界の海岸線の15％を占める砂州地形を対象に，著者によるものを含む過去の研究成果を総括し，完新世における地形発達過程の特徴を明確にすることである。地球上の砂州地形を代表するバリアー・システムは，テクトニクスから見て非活動的縁辺域（Trailing-edge coasts）に広く分布している。また，砂州地形の形成条件として，十分な堆積物供給と地形形成の場の存在が指摘されている。日本列島はテクトニクスから見て地殻変動が活発な島弧－海溝系に位置するが，海岸低地には普遍的に砂州地形が分布している。 今年度は，著者が行ってきた日本列島の砂州地形発達の復元結果を,過去１世紀以上に及ぶ地球上の他地域で蓄積されてきた砂州地形研究の成果と比較したうえで，砂州地形形成過程における共通性と地域性を明らかにし，その中での日本列島の特異性を抽出することを試みた。世界の砂州地形を発達史的な観点から見ると，バリアーの形成には完新世における地球規模の海面上昇が最も重要な要因であることが明らかになっている。海面上昇速度が速い完新世前半には，バリアーが陸側に向かって移動しながら発達していくのに対して，完新世後半の海面上昇速度低下期には堆積速度が海面上昇速度を上回るために，浜堤列が海側に発達する傾向が認められる。日本列島に発達する砂州地形についても，地域の自然地理学的条件（テクトニクス，基盤地形，堆積物供給など）にかかわらず，完新世という長期的な時間スケールにおいては，地球規模の気候変化に伴う海面変化が,砂州の形成・発達過程に最も重要な要因であることが明確になった。一方，それぞれの地域におけるテクトニクス，基盤地形，堆積物供給などの諸条件の違いは，現在の地形として確認できる砂州地形の形態や，浜堤列の数などの違いとして表れていることが具体的に示された。 Coastal ridges such as coastal barriers and beach ridges are widely distributed along stable trailing edge coasts across the globe. The primary requisites for the formation of coastal ridges are sufficient sediment supply, processes allowing the development and maintenance of the ridges, and and appropriate geomorphic setting. Although the Japanese Islands belong to tectonically active areas including island arcs and trench systems, coastal ridge landforms are generally distributed on the coastal lowlands of this area. Considering the geomorphic development of coastal ridges, studies on barrier complexes worldwide have shown that the rise in sea level during the Holocene was a major factor affecting the development of coastal barriers. Generally, barriers developed and transgressed landward when the sea level was rapidly rising. In contrast, the barriers began to grow seaward when sedimentation rate exceeded the rate of sea level rise. Following this, beach ridges also began to develop in seaward direction.
