日産自動車は国内自動車メーカーで最も長い歴史を持ち、1970年代まで国内シェア30％を維持していた。しかし1980年以降国内シェアは低下の一途を辿りこの間国内外で行われた設備投資も経営の重荷となった。こうした経営危機を脱すべく1999年3月27日、日産自動車とルノーは「ルノーが6430億円の資本投資を行い、日産株の36.8％を取得する」というグローバルアライアンスの合意文書に調印した。日産＝ルノーアライアンスは、人的資源管理論の観点からすれば、「資本国籍構成の変化が雇用制度にどの様な影響を及ぼすか」という、重要な論点を提示している。ルノーが日産株式の４割近くを取得するというガバナンスの変化によって、長期雇用、年功賃金、企業別組合を柱とする日本的雇用制度は変貌したのか。或は資本国籍構成の変化と雇用制度の変化は「独立」であり、日産の「外資化」は必ずしも雇用や労使関係に直接影響を及ぼさなかったのだろうか。我々はアライアンスの関係者にインタビューを行い、中間報告書を作成した。主要な論点は下記の通りである。（１）日産の提携先は、最終的にはルノーに落ち着いたが、潜在的にはダイムラーとフォードも提携先の候補であった、その背景には日米自動車摩擦、世界の自動車業界の生き残り、各社の手の内を相手に見せない虚々実々の駆け引き、買収先企業との長期的関係構築といった様々な要因が複雑に絡んでいた。（２）日産リバイバルプランの柱である21,000名の人員削減は、整理解雇ではなく主に系列外しによって行われた。村山工場閉鎖に伴う人員調整も、主に配置転換によって行われた。「日産の外資化」は雇用には影響を及ぼしていないと言える。（３）他方意思決定はクロス・ファンクショナル・チームという「知恵出し部隊」を活用することで、劇的に変化した。また、系列改革によって、日産が100%出資をしている子会社がMBOによって自らの資金でファンド共々会社を「買い取る」事例も現れたのである。 2018年度は、研究成果の外部への発信に関して、出版も視野にその可能性を検討した。 Nissan Automobile Company faced a serious financial difficulty in 1990s and decided to receive capital injection from Renault Corporation in 1999. We have interviewed key people for the alliance and asked number of questions, like 'why Renault?' 'How did it change the management and employment?' as well as financial status. We did publish an interim report and discussed the future possibility of publishing our research outcome as a book in 2018.
