• Note (General): type:text; 本研究の目的は、フィールドワークの手法によって得た一次資料をもとに、ミナマタの記憶をめぐる暗黙知の動態とその歴史的諸相を明らかにすることである。本年度は特に「水俣市における地域再生と環境政策」をテーマに据え、計約3週間のフィールドワークのなかで、関係者への聴きとり調査と文献資料調査を実施した。また、その成果を国内学会での発表、および2本の論文として公表した。 第一に、語りをめぐる人類学的研究のレビューを通して、近代的な見方からはこぼれ落ちるような語りを他者の「信念」として退けるのではなく、フィールドにおける具体的な事物との実践的なかかわりのなかに捉えていくことの重要性を見いだした。 第二に、水俣湾の眼前に浮かぶ恋路島の景観がかたちづくられてきたプロセスに光をあてることで、水俣病の発生を受けて無人島となり、豊かな現生林を取り戻してきたこの島に「再生」に関わる様々な兆しが読みとられ、現地の人びとによって人と人、人と自然とのあいだの乖離を埋めるための象徴としての意味が見いだされてきたことを明らかにした。 第三に、2000年代中頃に問題化した水俣への産業廃棄物処分場の建設計画について調査を進めるなかで、多くの水俣市民が参加した処分場建設反対運動が、生活防衛の意識に由来するだけでなく、水俣病の経験をいかに受けとめ、記憶していくかという問題とも密接に結びついている可能性が浮かび上がってきた。 The object of this study is to depict the dynamics of tacit knowledge in remembering Minamata disease. In 2018 academic year, I conducted fieldwork for about three weeks in Minamata, Kyushu Island, reviewing anthropological literature on narrative and analyzing the landscape history of Koiji Island in the Shiranui Sea. Once inhabited, this island became deserted after the release of methylmercury in the wastewater from the Chisso Corporation's factory caused severe mercury poisoning in the 1950s. By the 1990s, Koiji Island recovered its vegetation. I discovered that the people in Minamata interpreted this act of recovery as a hopeful sign of revitalization as well as a symbol for reconstructing the relationships among people and between people and nature, which had been once destroyed by the Minamata disease. In the 2000s, Integrated Waste-Management Design Toa Kumamoto Corporation proposed building industrial waste disposal sites in the mountainous regions of Minamata City that will be located upstream from the city's drinking water source. This plan evoked memories of the tragedy and many citizens organized a movement opposing it. My preliminary study of this movement suggests that although many citizens participated in this campaign to protect their daily lives, the tacit concern was how to remember the experience of Minamata disease.
