大学スポーツでは高校までと比べて全体的に選手の筋量が増大し，競技のスピードや難度が向上するため，その危険性も高くなっている。選手の安全を確保するための方策の一つとしてマウスガードの利用を促進することが重要である。これまで我が国のスポーツ現場において，マウスガード利用の実態調査はラグビー競技等を中心に積極的に実施されてきた一方で、その多くは特定の競技を対象としたものであり、異なる競技間でのマウスガードの認知および利用の実態を横断的に調べた研究はほとんどない。そこで本研究では大学スポーツにおいてマウスガードの認知とその利用実態を競技横断的に明らかにするため，大学スポーツ部員を対象としてマウスガードの利用実態の比較分析を行うことを目的とした。アメリカ歯科医師会がマウスガード装着を推奨する競技種目を実施している、慶應義塾体育会所属選手1084名(18~24歳;平均男子19.8歳、女子20.2歳)に対して，自記式アンケート調査を行った。質問項目はマウスガードの認知・必要性・使用有無、口や歯の受傷経験・脳震盪経験等の20項目から構成されている。なお本調査に際して，いずれも調査スタッフが現地に赴き，質問内容などが理解できない，あるいは不明箇所がある場合などには，口頭で追加説明を行った。また本研究は慶應義塾研究倫理審査委員会の承認を得て行った(18-012)。マウスガードの認知度は92.8%（856名）と高く、着用者数は459名（49.8%）、男女別では男子387名（50.1%）、女子72名（47.7%）であった。口や歯のケガの経験者数は242名（26.2%）、男女別では男子192名（24.9%）、女子50名（33.3%）であった。脳震盪経験者数は209名（22.7%）、男女別では男子191名（24.7%）、女子18名（12.2%）であった。大学運動部員の安全性を確保するため、口や歯のケガ及び脳震盪の発生頻度が高い競技を調べた。全部員の平均と比較して、マウスガードの着用が義務化されていない競技の中で、経験率とその平均経験回数が高い競技は以下であった。口や歯のケガ：（男子）サッカー、ハンドボール、水球、レスリング、バスケットボール、（女子）ハンドボール。脳震盪：（男子）なし、（女子）器械体操、馬術。今後はこれらの競技に対してマウスガードが与える影響を継続調査する。 In university sports, the athlete's muscle mass is generally higher than in their high school age, and the speed and difficulty of the game are higher, so the risk of injury is high. It is important to promote the use of mouth guards as one of the measures to ensure the safety of players. Surveys of the use of mouth guards at sports sites in Japan have been actively conducted, mainly in rugby sports, but many of them are targeted at specific sports, and are not often conducted between different competitions. The purpose of this study was to make a comparative analysis of the use of mouth guards among university sports club members in order to clarify the recognition and use of mouth guards in college sports. A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted on 1084 athletes (18-24 years old; average boy 19.8 years old, girls 20.2 years old) belonging to the Keio Athletic Association, where the American Dental Association recommends wearing mouth guards was done. The question items consisted of 20 items such as recognition, necessity and use of mouth guard, mouth and tooth injuries, and concussion. At the time of this survey, in all cases, the survey staff went to the site and provided additional explanations verbally in cases such as when the contents of the question could not be understood or there were any unknown points. This study was approved by Keio Research Ethics Committee (18-012). Mouth guards awareness was high at 92.8% (856), and the number of wearers was 459 (49.8%). By gender, it was 387 for boys (50.1%) and 72 for girls (47.7%). 242 (26.2%) had experienced mouth and tooth injuries, and 192 boys (24.9%) and 50 girls (33.3%) by gender. The number of people who experienced concussion was 209 (22.7%), by gender, 191 boys (24.7%) and 18 girls (12.2%). In order to ensure the safety of university athletic club members, we examined sports in which injuries to the mouth and teeth and concussion occurred frequently. Compared to the average for all members, among the sports where the use of mouth guards is not compulsory, those with higher experience rates and the average number of times of experience were as follows. Mouth and tooth injuries: (boys) Soccer, Handball, Water Polo, Wrestling, Basketball, (girls) Handball. Concussion: (boys) None, (girls) gymnastics, equestrian. In the future, we will continue to investigate the effects of mouth guards on these sports.
