• Note (General): type:text; 本研究の主な課題はMcCall'sを中心に、1945〜1965年の時期を限定に、アメリカの国家図書館（Library of Congress）においてアメリカの戦後の婦人雑誌でみられる結婚をめぐる言説を検討することであった。結果的に、アメリカで「幸せな家庭」が裕福のシンボルとなった1950年代の婦人雑誌の中で、中産階級（及びそれ以上の階級）に属する女性たちに最も広く読まれていたと思われるMcCall'sの誌上で、結婚に関する言説およびロマンティック・ラブ・イデオロギーそのものの言説を検討することになった。特に「エクスパート」のアドバイスに関していえば、戦前アメリカで主流であった結婚生活におけるセクシュアリティーのあり方の重要性を中心とする言説とは全然違う言説がこの時期に登場したと言える。具体的にいえば、夫婦関係の質は性生活の質で評価されるといった戦前の言説が消え、その代わりに夫婦の関係の質が評価される場合、心理学的な用語および概念が用いられるようになる。このことはまた、戦後アメリカの文化においてみられた、心理学のヘゲモニーの登場、あるいはアメリカ文化の「心理学化」の現れとしてみることが可能である。当時は離婚に対するスティグマが強かった背景もあり、配偶者選択を間違ってしまい、「駄目な人」と結婚してしまったことに気づいてしまうといった状況は広く恐れられていたようである。しかしそういった場合、「エクスパート」によるアドバイスというのは、その相手を「駄目な人」と考えずに、むしろその人の人生にトラウマなどの（心理学的な）苦労があったはずであるということを理解し、その人に同情することが勧められている。一方で、のちの1970年代の文化の心理学化の最も顕著な特徴となる「濃密なコミュニケーション」の必要性の強調はこの時点ではまだ見られない。むしろ「幸せな結婚」ではなくても、問題視される相手の言動や態度などの背景には、その人の過去のトラウマといった心理学的なものがあることを理解することが勧められる傾向がみられるようになったと言える。 The aim of this research project was to examine women's magazines such as McCall's which had been published in the postwar period up until the early 1960s at the Library of Congress in Washington DC. Specifically, the aim of the project was to examine the discourses related to marriage in this era. In the end I focused on discourses related to both marriage and the ideology of romantic love as seen in the pages of McCall's of the 1950s, the era in which affluence and happiness had come to be understood as symbolized by domestic bliss and a happy home. The first thing that became apparent was that marital happiness was defined very differently than it had been by social scientists in the prewar period. In short, the former emphasis on the importance of a happy and balanced sex life had been eclipsed by a new more 'psychological' understanding of marital happiness. This in turn seems to reflect the emerging hegemony of the field of psychology and the 'psychologization' of American culture which emerged in the postwar era. At the time there was still a strong stigma attached to divorce, and one fear that women of the age faced was the idea that one might marry the wrong person and end up with a 'bad husband'. The response to this fear on the part of 'experts' seems to have been the recommendation not to dismiss this person as 'bad', but rather to try to understand that that person's limitations are based on trauma and other (psychological) suffering that they have endured, and in this way develop some empathy for the person. Nevertheless, although the later 'psychological discourse' of the 1970s goes on to emphasize the importance of 'communication', that is not in evidence at this time. Rather, one is implicitly encouraged to endure what might not be a 'happy marriage' by developing an understanding that the problematic behavior and/or attitude of a spouse can likely be explained by childhood trauma and/or other psychological causes.
