• Note (General): type:text; 今年度は、有力林業家である奈良県の永田家と埼玉県の平沼家の歴史資料の分析を行った。そして、永田家についての研究成果は、来年度の学会大会でパネル報告をする予定になっており、平沼家についての研究成果は、学会誌に投稿した。永田家は、近代日本における先進的林業地の奈良県吉野地域で、近世後期より大規模な植林事業を進めた。そして、1910年代に輸送と電力のインフラ整備が進んだなかで、大規模に製材業へ展開し、事業規模を急速に拡大した。しかし、1920年代は外国からの輸入材が大量に日本へ輸入されたために、国産材の価格が下落し、永田家も事業規模を縮小した。ただし、そのなかでも永田家は植林事業を継続し、1930年代に外国からの木材輸入が急減した際に、再び奈良県吉野地域の林業が見直された。埼玉県西川地域の平沼家も同様に、近世後期より大規模に植林事業を進め、それが永続するように、自家の有価証券投資を制約する事業規定を設けて、植林費用を恒常的に確保する方策をとった。そのため、国産材の価格が下落して国内林業が苦しくなった1920年代後半以降も、平沼家の植林事業は進められた。その結果、第二次世界大戦後も西川地域が主要林産地として残り、特に戦後復興期に木材・薪炭需要が拡大して、西川地域は主要林産地として脚光を浴びた。永田家も平沼家も、近代日本における林産資源の重要性を認識しており、短期の景気変動に左右されずに、長期的視野で植林事業を継続し、製材業のためのインフラ整備として、水力発電事業も展開した。こうした林業資産家の経営展開が、近代日本における林業の持続的成長を支えつつ、林産資源や電気エネルギーの大都市への安定的供給を可能にしており、その点で、近代日本の国内資源・エネルギーの豊かさを再評価したいと思う。 In the current year, we analyzed historical materials of the Eida family in Nara Prefecture and the Hiranuma family in Saitama Prefecture. The research results on the Eida family are scheduled to be presented in a panel discussion at the next academic conference, and the research results on the Hiranuma family were applied to the academic journal. The Eida family carried out a large-scale afforestation project from the latter half of the early-modern period in Yoshino area, Nara Prefecture, which was an advanced forestry area in modern Japan. In the 1910s, the family expanded into the lumber industry on a large scale, and rapidly expanded its business scale, as transportation and electric power infrastructure improved. In the 1920s, however, a large amount of imported wood was imported into Japan, which caused the price of domestic wood to fall, and the Eida family also downsized its business. Among them, however, the family continued the afforestation business, and the forestry of Yoshino region in Nara Prefecture was re-appreciated in the 1930s when the import of wood from abroad decreased sharply. The Hiranuma family in Nishikawa area, Saitama Prefecture, also promoted afforestation on a large scale from the latter half of the early-modern period, and in order to make it last, they took measures to constantly secure afforestation expenses by establishing business regulations that restricted their investment in securities. As a result, the Hiranuma family's afforestation project continued even after the late 1920s when domestic timber prices fell and domestic forestry became difficult. As a result, the Nishikawa area remained as a major forest producing area even after the World War II, and the demand for wood and fuelwood increased especially during the postwar reconstruction period, and the Nishikawa area came into the spotlight as a major forest producing area. Both the Eida family and the Hiranuma family recognized the importance of forest resources in modern Japan, and continued afforestation projects from a long-term perspective regardless of short-term economic fluctuations, and also developed the hydroelectric power business as infrastructure development for the lumber industry. I would like to reevaluate the affluence of modern Japan's domestic resources and energy in this respect, because the management development of these forestry wealthy people has enabled the stable supply of forest resources and electric energy to large cities while supporting the sustainable growth of forestry in modern Japan.
