• Note (General): type:text; 球は数学的対称性の高い単純な形であるが，頂部を平面で切断した球(切断球)はその対称性を破り，それを高速で回転させると逆立ちゴマのように重心が上昇する．また，切断球を低速で転がしても，不思議な運動が観察される．特に，初期に与えた自転の方向とその重心軌跡の回る方向が同じ場合と異なる場合があることは興味深い．本研究の目的は，このような切断球の転がり運動を理論的に解明して何が重心軌跡の回る方向を決定しているかを明らかにすること，さらにはその理論の正当性を数値シミュレーションと実験によって実証することであった． 本研究では，まず，切断球の回転運動を支配する基礎方程式系から，運動定数をパラメータとする常微分方程式系を導出した．そして，別の方法によって以前に得ていた切断のない球に対する結果と一致することを確認した．さらに，そこから一変数の積分形に変形できたので数式処理ソフトを用いても解析的積分を試みたが，一般的な数学的厳密解を得ることができなかった． 次に，転がる切断球の数値シミュレーションを本研究費で購入したPCを用い行い，重心軌跡の回る方向についてシドニー大学名誉教授のクロス氏による実験結果とほぼ一致することを確認した．ただし，重心軌跡の回る方向を決める条件式を得ることはできず，今後の課題となった． 最後に，エポキシレジンを用いて切断球を作成し，定性的な実験を行った．しかしながら，重心軌跡の回る方向が理論や数値シミュレーションの結果と合わない場合があることを確認した．この原因として，エポキシレジンを流し込むシリコンモールドがあまり硬くなくまた完全な球形でないこと，切断球に成型したエポキシレジンの表面が十分滑らかでないことが考えられる．したがって，これらの問題を解決することも今後の課題となった． なお，わずかに切断された球に対する近似理論を本研究によって改良できたので，論文を執筆してその成果を公表する予定である． The objective of the present study was to analytically find what determines the curvatures of the trajectories of truncated spheres, with the assumption that they roll without slipping on a horizontal surface, and to check its validity in comparison with numerical simulations and experiments. First, I derived from their fundamental equations for their motions a system of ordinary differential equations with the parameters of constants of motion, which predicts the correct motions of spheres. Then, I tried to analytically obtain an integral of an equation by a formula manipulation software, but it was not successful with no answer. Next, I carried out numerical simulations of rolling truncated spheres on a horizontal surface by using the PC introduced in the present study, and confirmed that the signs of curvatures of the trajectories agreed well with the experimental results obtained by Cross. However, I could not find the condition formula to determine the curvatures, which was left as a future work Lastly, I made some truncated spheres of epoxy resin to carry out qualitative experiments. Then, I found there are cases where the observations of trajectories do not agree with the corresponding results of theory or numerical simulations. I guess the reasons for this disagreements are that the silicon molds used are not so hard and their shapes are not complete sphere and that the surface of epoxy resin of truncated spheres are not smooth enough. So, it is also left as a future work to solve these problems. In addition, I improved through the present study the approximate theory for rolling spheres slightly truncated, and I am going to write a paper about its results to be published.
