抗血栓性とは毒性がなく血小板が付着しにくい性質のことであり、血液と接触する医療器具には欠かせない性質である。この抗血栓性を高く有する液体材料としてpoly(2-methoxyethyl acrylate)（PMEA）が知られている。しかし液体であるがゆえ、室温で流動してしまうため、現状では医療器具においてはコーティング用途でしか使用できない。そこで本研究では、室温においても固体の汎用性ポリマーであるpolystyrene（PS：ポリスチレン）に着目した。この固体のPS と液状のPMEA を分子レベルで化学的に結合し、新しい固体状のPMEA を合成できないかと考えた。すなわち本研究は、PSとPMEAのブロック共重合化による液体PMEAの固形化とその物性解析を目的として実施されている。当該年度は、PSとのブロック共重合化による固形PMEA（PS-PMEA-PS）の合成を実施した。ここでは原子移動ラジカル重合法 (ATRP法) により、PSモル分率が0.24～0.72のPS-PMEA-PSブロック共重合体を合成でき、固形化が実現できたと考えられる。なお、PSとPMEA の分子組成・分子量設計などは今後の物性を決める上で重要な要素であるため、核磁気共鳴法（NMR）や赤外分光法（IR）などで分子構造解析を慎重に行った。より具体的には、合成において、モノマーのstyreneと2-methoxyehyl acrylate（MEA）を精製し、モノマーを重合禁止剤除去剤に通し、モノマー中に含まれる重合禁止剤を除去した。つづいて、モノマー中に含まれる水分を除去し、脱水後にモノマーを蒸留することで精製したモノマーを得た。次にPSを、重合開始剤、スチレンモノマー、触媒、配位子および溶媒を封入し、加熱撹拌して合成した。つづいて、バルク重合法によりPMEAを合成した。最後に、溶液重合法により、合成したPMEAを用いて分子量と分子組成の違うPS-PMEA-PSを合成した。分子量分布は1.69以下であった。これらのPS-PMEA-PSはすべて室温で固形化することを確認できた。 Antithrombogenicity is one of the most important properties required for a material used in biomedical applications, especially for devices used in direct contact with blood. It is known that poly(2-methoxyethyl acrylate) (PMEA) has excellent antithrombogenicity, insolubility in water, and non-toxicity to the human body. Therefore, PMEA has been used as a coating material for a cardiopulmonary bypass. However, because of its low glass transition temperature (Tg = -34°C), PMEA is in the liquid state at room temperature, which prevents its molding, and thus PMEA in itself cannot be directly used as a solid material. To use PMEA as a medical-device material, it is necessary to solidify PMEA at room temperature. Here in this study, in order to solidify PMEA, we focused on the block copolymerization of PMEA with polystyrene (PS) with higher glass transition temperature ( > room temperature). PS-PMEA-PS triblock copolymers (the molar fraction of PS: 0.24-0.72) were synthesized by the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP).
