蛍光カーボンドット（CDs）は、環境に優しい有望な次世代蛍光体である。ただし、ほとんどのCDsは、半値幅60nmを超える蛍光スペクトルを示す。半値幅40nm未満のシャープな蛍光スペクトルのCDsに関する研究はほとんど報告されていない。本研究では、1,2-ペンタンジオールを用いた開放反応場で、加熱温度180℃、加熱時間6hおよび大気雰囲気の条件で狭帯域蛍光のフロログルシノール誘導カーボンドット（Ph-CDs）を作製することに成功した。開放反応場での合成によって、フロログルシノール分子間の脱水縮重合反応が促進されたことで、グラフェンの秩序構造および一様な官能基（OH基）を有するPh-CDsが作製された。この疎水性のπ共役系グラフェン構造および親水性のOH基によって、Ph-CDsは7種類の異なる極性の溶媒に分散した。HOMO–LUMO間の遷移に帰属される励起・蛍光ピークは、分散媒の極性が小さくなるほど長波長側にシフトした。蛍光ピークエネルギーは、溶媒の極性を示すパラメーターET(30)に対して直線的に増加した。これより、CDsが負の蛍光ソルバトクロミズムを示すことが明らかにされた。Ph-CDsの蛍光ピーク波長は463nmから511nmまで調節できた。青色および緑色の狭帯域蛍光は励起波長に非依存であり、それぞれの半値幅は30nmおよび27nm、その蛍光量子収率は51%であった。Ph-CDsポリマー複合フィルムも同様のソルバトクロミズムによる蛍光色変化および狭帯域蛍光を示した。このような狭帯域蛍光のPh-CDsにより、広色域ディスプレイ応用の実現可能性が示唆された。さらに、上記合成条件の改善によって、蛍光量子収率を向上できることが明らかにされた。また、黄色や赤色に蛍光を示すCDsの合成法の検討を進めており、今後の研究の進展が期待される。 Fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) represent a promising eco-friendly next-generation phosphor. However, most CDs exhibit broad photoluminescence (PL) spectra (full width at half maximum (fwhm) over 60 nm); few works on CDs with sharp PL spectra (fwhm less than 40 nm) have been reported. Here, we successfully prepared narrow-bandwidth emissive CDs from phloroglucinol (Ph-CDs) in a glycol solvent of 1,2-pentanediol at temperatures as low as 180 ℃ for reaction duration as short as 6 h under ambient conditions without any catalysts via an open reaction system. In this system, dehydration and condensation reactions among phloroglucinol molecules were enhanced to form Ph-CDs with ordered graphene structure and uniform OH functional groups. Ph-CDs were dispersed in seven solvents with different polarities owing to hydrophobic π-conjugated graphene structure and hydrophilic OH groups. The excitation and emission peaks corresponding to the HOMO-LUMO transition shifted to longer wavelength with decreasing the polarity of dispersant. The emission peak energy linearly increased with the solvent polarity parameter, ET(30). This verified negative fluorescence solvatochromism. The emission peak wavelength of Ph-CDs was readily tuned from 463 nm to 511 nm. They exhibited excitation-independent narrow-bandwidth blue and green emissions with respective fwhms of 30 nm and 27 nm and high PLQYs of up to 51%. Ph-CD polymer composite films showed similar solvatochromic behavior and narrow-bandwidth emissions. This novel narrow-bandwidth emissive Ph-CDs verified the feasibility of applying them to wide-color-gamut displays. Furthermore, the fluorescence quantum yield could be increased by improving the above-mentioned synthesis conditions. In addition, our research on yellow- and red-emitting CDs is expected to progress.
