• Note (General): type:text; 2021年度の学事振興資金による主たる研究成果は、「動詞『とる』の多義性：認知文法的考察」という題目の論考を『教養論叢』の第143号に掲載したことである。 国語辞典の大辞林の「とる」の項目には、大分類10、中分類73、そして小分類14に渡り、総数81にもおよぶ語義が提示されている。本論考では、これらの語義を個々に精査し、重複や不適切な配置のため、明らかに整合性が大きく欠如した記述が多く存在していることを指摘した。辞書という性質上、限られた時間と労力の中で、膨大な数のことばの語釈を作成せねばならず、現実的な作業上の妥協はある程度はいたしかたないことであるが、それを斟酌しても、重大な欠陥であると言わざるをえない。 続いて、大辞林の「とる」の用法の記述に関して、指摘した問題点を解消しうるような再分類を提案した。10の大分類、14の小分類を設定し、21の用法に整理した。全体としては、極めて整合性の高く、用法間の類似点と相違点を明示することが可能な分類を構築した。そして、この再分類に基づき、国広（1997）の提案する再分類を吟味した。国広が大辞林の大分類をそのまま踏襲しているという重大な問題点を指摘するとともに、抽象度の違いによる大分類の区別が不十分であることも示した。 さらには、認知文法の枠組みを用い、提案した再分類における各用法の意味構造を詳細に提示した。具体的には、意味構造を図式化することによって、各用法の類似点と相違点を正確、かつ詳細に浮き彫りにした。そして、どの用法がどの用法から拡張であるかを明示し、拡張元が複数ある用法も認定した。用法の意味構造が大きく異なる用法が存在していることを突き止め、それは連鎖的な意味拡張の結果であることを論じた。全体としては、「とる」は、各用法が複雑に関連した、密接な構造のネットーワークを形成していることを視覚的に明確に提示することに成功したと言える。 The principal achievement made possible by the Academic Development Fund for 2021 was a research paper titled "The Polysemous Structure of the Japanese Verb toru: A Cognitive-Grammar Approach," which was published in the 143rd issue of Kyoyo-Ronso. For the verb toru, the Japanese-language dictionary of Daijirin lists 10 major groups, 73 middle groups, and 14 minor groups, identifying a total of as many as 81 usages. In the paper, these usages were individually examined, and a significant number of them were shown to be highly incoherent with overlapping descriptions and inappropriate place-ments. Even with the admission that the very nature of a dictionary necessitates selecting a vast number of entries and identifying their usages with limited time and resources, this incoherence unfortunately constitutes some gross inadequacy. Furthermore, a revised classification of the usages of the verb was presented that would overcome the problems pointed out for its entry in Daijirin. The proposed reclassi-fication contains 10 major groups with 14 subgroups, listing only 21 consolidated usages. It is highly coherent, making it possible to clearly illustrate the similarities and differences among the usages. In addition, in comparison with this proposed reclassification, Kunihi-ro (1997)'s reclassification was examined. Not only the serious problem of his simply ac-cepting and following the major grouping in Daijirin without substantive modification but also the inadequacy of classifying the major groups based on their abstractness was point-ed out. Finally, the semantic structures of the usages in the reclassification were elucidated using the framework of Cognitive Grammar. To be more exact, the similarities and the dif-ferences among the individual usages were presented precisely and in great detail by providing graphic representations of the semantic structures involved. Furthermore, the source of extension of each usage was clearly identified, with some usages having multiple sources. In addition, major differences detected between certain pairs of usages were shown to be the result of successive chain extensions. In sum, this paper succeeded in vis-ually and precisely showing how the multiple usages of the verb toru as a whole form a closely-knit network with individual usages related to each other in some intricate ways and manners.
