• Note (General): type:text; 本研究は、基礎理論に立ち返りながら、政治コミュニケーション研究の新たな発展を試みることを目的として実施された。政治コミュニケーション研究の基礎理論として、特にシンボル論の重要性に焦点を当てて理論的考察と事例研究を試みた。その結果として、「シンボル化の政治学」という新たな理論的視座を獲得することに成功した。 本研究における重要な成果は二つあった。ひとつは、政治コミュニケーション研究の構成主義の立場の延長線上に「シンボル化の政治学」を位置付けたことである。言語学から発展してきたCDA（Critical Discourse Analysis：批判的言説分析）のような研究が、有益な示唆をもたらすものではあっても、必ずしも政治シンボル研究の切り札的な方法になるとは限らないという観点から、むしろシンボル論の知的鉱脈を改めて遡る道筋の重要性を強調した。 これは本研究にとって極めて大きな選択であった。そして、シンボル論の知的鉱脈を辿り直すことで「発見」されたのがランガーの「シンボル化の欲求」という考え方であった。このランガーの議論を土台として政治コミュニケーション研究の再構成をはかり、「シンボル化の政治学」という方向性を打ち出したこと、この一連の道筋を見出していったことが本研究における重要な成果のひとつであった。 いまひとつの成果は、ランガーの「シンボル化の欲求」説が個人的な経験の次元に注目した議論であることを踏まえながら、そこからシンボル化の集合的次元へと研究を推し進めるための一歩を踏み出していったことである。とりわけ、集合的なシンボル化のプロセスを「結晶化」、「転換」、「浸透」という形で具体的に切り出し、原子力政策や水俣病事件などの事例研究を具体的に進めていけたことは本書の重要な成果であった。 The objective of this study was to attempt new developments in political communication studies by reconsidering fundamental theories on human communication. As a basic theory of political communication research, we attempted theoretical considerations and case studies, focusing on the importance of theories of the symbol. As a result, we acquired a new theoretical perspective on the "politics of symbolization." There were two important outcomes in this study. The first was positioning the "politics of symbolization" as an extension of the constructionist position of political communication research. Studies such as CDA (Critical Discourse Analysis), which has developed out of linguistics, may provide valuable suggestions, but they are not necessarily the ultimate research method for political symbol studies. For this reason, we instead emphasized the importance of going back again to the intellectual histories of symbol theory. What was "discovered" by retracing the intellectual histories of symbol theory was Susanne Langer's idea of the "desire for symbolic transformation." The basic policy of this study was to reconstruct political communication research based on Langer's argument. One of the most important results of this study was the discovery of a theoretical roadmap for the "politics of symbolization." Another significant achievement was that we took a step forward in advancing our research into the collective dimension of symbolization. In particular, the specific identification of the process of collective symbolization in the form of "crystallization," "transformation," and "penetration" and the specific case studies of nuclear policy and the Minamata disease case was important achievements of this study.
