• Note (General): type:text; 全国各地に、美しさと実用性を併せ持ち、日常生活でも利用される伝統工芸品が数多く存在している。今日まで継承されて来た多くの工芸品の技術は江戸時代には既に各地域で確立されていたと言われている。代々伝統を受け継いだ職人達は、主にそれぞれの地域の自然がもたらす原材料を用い、技法を守りながら、洗練された多様な工芸品を製造することにより、世界的にも高い評価を受けている。 本研究の目的は、東北地方の伝統工芸品産業の現状と地域社会の文化・経済的な位置を考察することにある。 最初に日本の伝統工芸品の歴史や保護策について資料、文献を通して詳しく調べてみた。次に東北地方の伝統工芸品の歴史と特徴に関する資料を収集し、その中の幾つかの工芸品とそれに関わる職人たちに目を向け掘り下げながら、産地の様子や歴史と照らし合わせて考察してみた。さらに数名の職人に焦点をあて、それぞれの家業の歴史や技術、直面している問題(後継者の有無・経済状況・材料 不足等)についてのインタビューを行う予定であったがコロナ禍の影響で、残念ながら十分な現地調査が実施できなかった。今年度末には定年退職となるが、また状況が許すようになれば、職人たちへのインタビューを含め現地調査を続ける予定である。 尚、今回の東北地方における現地調査は経済産業大臣指定「伝統的工芸品」 を対象に行った。その産地と工芸品は以下の通りである。 青森県の「津軽塗」・「弘前こぎん刺し」、岩手県の「南部鉄器」・「浄法寺塗」 、秋田県の「大館曲げわっぱ」、山形県の「山形鋳物」・米沢織物「置賜紬」 、宮城県の「宮城伝統こけし（遠刈田こけし・鳴子こけし」、福島県の「会津本郷焼」。 この現地調査ではまだ十分と言えないが、独特の美しさと特徴を併せ持つ伝統工芸品が、地域、さらには国の文化遺産として計り知れない価値を持つことを認識した。職人は伝統的な技術を尊重しつつ現代の趣味や需要、あるいは外国人の好みにも応じた製品を生み出す努力を行なっている。様々な問題に直面しながらも、国や地元の援助のもと、職人としての誇りを大切にし、長年受け継いできたノウハウを次世代に伝えている。これらの伝統工芸品の生産と販売は、地元の雇用に貢献している。 Varied and beautiful craft products are in use in daily life in Japan: their manufacture is given a level of care and attention unique to this country. The techniques to make the hand-crafted items are passed down from generation to generation, and the expertise in producing diverse, sophisticated craft products using traditional techniques and mainly natural, local, materials, is appreciated worldwide. Each craft has its own regional characteristics. It is said that many of these craft techniques were already established in each region during the Edo period (1603-1868). The purpose of this study is to consider the current situation of Japanese traditional craft industries in the Tohoku region and their impacts on the local community. First, the history of traditional craftsmanship in Japan is documented, on a general level as well as the protective measures concerning it. Then, documentation concerning the characteristics and history of craftsmanship in the Tohoku region was collected. The plan was to focus on several craftsmen and to interview them about the history of their family business and the difficulties they now face, such as raw material shortages, lack of a successor, difficulties of the business environment…. The Corona virus pandemic prevented an extensive field survey being carried out at this stage. If circumstances permit, field surveys including interviews will be resumed. This first field survey in the Tohoku region was based on the "traditional crafts" designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. The production areas and crafts (which are more than 100 years old) are as follows. Aomori Prefecture: "Tsugaru-Nuri" (lacquerware) and "Tsugaru Kogin-Sashi" (weaving), Iwate Prefecture: "nanbu-tekki" (ironware) and "Joboji-Nuri" (lacquerware). Akita Prefecture: "Odate Wage-Wappa" (bentwood work). Yamagata Prefecture: "Yamagata Imono" (casting) and " Yonezawa, Oitama Tsumugi" (weaving). Miyagi Prefecture: "Miyagi Dento Kokeshi (Togatta Kokeshi / Naruko Kokeshi)" (wooden doll). Fukushima Prefecture: "Aizu Hongo-Yaki"(ceramics). Even with this limited field survey, we were nevertheless able to appreciate the specificities and the beauty of each of these objects and their inestimable value as a regional cultural heritage and in a broader sense as part of a national cultural heritage. The craftsmen succeed in proudly transmitting their knowledge to the next generation despite the problems they face. They adapt their products to changes in tastes within Japan and abroad, whilst respecting traditional techniques. They do receive government and local financial supports. The production and sale of these traditional craft products contributes to local employment.
