• Note (General): type:text; 19世紀以降、欧米の美術・建築は、イスラーム美術・建築から多大な影響を受けたことが知られている。しかし、日本の近現代の美術・建築が、イスラーム美術からどのような影響を受けたのかについては、ほとんど考察がなされていない。そこで、建築家の伊東忠太に注目した。伊東の師にあたるコンドルは、日本にイスラーム風建築を建てたが、伊東ももまた、インドやシリア、トルコ、ヨーロッパをまわり、イスラーム建築や、ヨーロッパの美術館でのイスラーム展示や、ヨーロッパにおけるイスラーム美術・建築の重要性に触れ、日本に帰国すると、イスラーム風建築を手がけた。大谷光瑞の別荘「二楽荘」をイスラーム風に建てるに際して、助言を行うほか、現存するイスラーム風建築として貴重な本願寺伝道院を建てたのである。さらに、東京帝国大学での授業や著作活動、展示などを通じて、日本の人びとにイスラーム美術・建築を紹介した。とくに重要なのは、『文様集成』の出版で、イスラーム装飾を日本の図案改良に役立てようとし、さらに『世界美術全集』の出版を通じて、広く日本の人びとにイスラーム美術・建築を紹介した。こうしたイスラーム美術・建築の紹介者としての伊東忠太の功績については、紀要『人文科学』37(2022)に「近現代日本とイスラーム美術・建築―その紹介者としての伊東忠太―」としてまとめた。また、近現代日本の画家・工芸家とイスラーム美術・建築の関係についても、資料調査を進めた。これについては、さらに研究をすすめ、近く論文にまとめたいと考えている。 It has been well known that Islamic art and architecture influenced those in Europe from the 19th century onwards. However, it has not been studied in depth how Islamic art and architecture influenced the early modern Japanese art and architecture. To explore Japan's reception of Islamic art and architecture, my research focuses on a famous architect and a scholar Chuta Ito (1867-1954), who taught architecture as a professor at the University of Tokyo. Like Josiah Conder (1852-1920), who built Islamic-style buildings in Tokyo including a former main building of the Tokyo National Museum, Chuta Ito built several Islamic-style buildings in Japan such as Nirakuso (Kozui Otani's second house) in Kobe and Honganji Dendoin in Kyoto. Ito studied Islamic art and architecture during his travel in India, Syria, Turkey, and Europe in 1902-1903. After his return home, Ito emphasized the importance of Islamic art and architecture in his vast range of writings including entries for the encyclopedia of world art and a compendium of world design pattern. He suggested that Japanese architects, designers, and artists should learn design patterns not only from ancient Japan but also from foreign cultures including Islamic world. Part of my research appeared as an article discussing the significance of Chuta Ito's importance and contribution as a pioneer who introduced Islamic art and architecture to the Japanese society, entitled "Influence of Islamic Art and Architecture in Modern Japan: The Case of Chuta Ito" Humanities 37 (2022), pp. 99-125 (in Japanese).
