• Note (General): type:text; 17世紀にイングランドで刊行されたイタリア旅行記およびイタリア美術案内を分析対象として、グランド・ツアー前夜のピューリタン革命から王政復古期イギリスにおけるイタリア受容の実際を、書物文化史的視点から明らかにした。イギリスとイタリアの交流史では、１７世紀半ばには、ヨーロッパ全域を巻き込んだ三十年戦争は終結に向かい、ローマ教皇の対プロテスタント政策が緩和されて、イギリス人にとってイタリア訪問の障害が取り除かれたとされる。一方で１７世紀は、多様でしばしば節操のない好奇(curiositas)に突き動かされた蒐集の時代ともとらえられる。John Tradescantの珍品キャビネットに端的にみられる蒐集によって異文化を占有するという行動は、イギリス人の場合、植民地だけでなく、大陸―特に中世以来常に文化的憧憬と脅威のであり続けたイタリア－に対しても発揮されてゆく。イギリス人によって著された最初のイタリアに特化した旅行記となるJoseph Raymond, A Itinerary (London, 1648)と英語による最初のイタリア美術案内書Giacomo Barri, The painters voyage of Italy, ed. by William Lodge (London, 1679)に特に焦点を当てて、イタリア美術の蒐集が大陸に亡命した王党派の有産階級によって継続され、それはイギリス的な珍品蒐集趣味とも相俟って、イタリアへの文化的関心がグランド・ツアーの時代へと引き継がれていったことを明らかにした。 This study analyzes travel journals and guides to Italian art published in England in the 17th century to clarify the actual reception of Italy in England on the eve of the Grand Tour, from the Puritan Revolution to the Restoration from the book-historical perspective. In the history of British-Italian cultural exchange, it is said that by the middle of the 17th century, the end of the Thirty Years' War and the relaxation of the Pope's policy against Protestantism removed the obstacles for the English in visiting Italy. On the other hand, the seventeenth century can also be seen as a period of collecting, characterized by diverse and often unrestrained curiositas and the appropriation of different cultures through collecting, as exemplified by John Tradescant's cabinet of curiosities. In the case of the English, this is seen with regard not only to the colonies, but also to the Continent, especially Italy, which has been a constant source of cultural fascination and threat since the Middle Ages. By focusing especially on the first travel book written by an Englishman specifically about Italy, Joseph Raymond, A Itinerary (London, 1648), and the first guide to Italian art in English, Giacomo Barri, The painters voyage of Italy, ed. William Lodge (London, 1679), this study shows that the collecting of Italian art was continued by the Royalists in exile on the Continent, and that this, coupled with the English taste for collecting curiosities, worked to maintain cultural interest in Italy into the period of the Grand Tour.
