ドライアイ患者と正常者の涙液を採取し、涙液中ガレクチン3濃度を比較したところ、ドライアイ患者群で有意に増加していることが判明した。ガレクチン3は眼表面バリアを構築する上で重要なタンパクであり、ドライアイではこのバリアが破綻していることが推測された。またドライアイ重症度と涙液中ガレクチン3濃度が相関すること、また通常のガレクチン3がタンパク分解酵素などにより小さく切断された切断型ガレクチン3も、重症なドライアイに多く認められた。このことからドライアイの重症度を評価する上でガレクチン３が新しい評価マーカーとしても有用な可能性が示唆された。 We found that galectin-3 in the tears of patients with dry eye disease was significantly correlated with ophthalmic evaluation factors, especially the lissamine green staining score, which is used to evaluate the disruption of ocular surface glycocalyx. Cleaved galectin-3 was also found to have a higher detection rate in more severe cases of dry eye disease. These data suggested that galectin-3 and cleaved galectin-3 may have the possibility of being novel ocular surface biomarkers to evaluate the severity of ocular surface barrier disruption.
