統合失調症は精神神経疾患とされているが、骨・間葉系といった脳神経系以外の重要な表現型の存在が示唆される。「統合失調症の本態は、間葉系細胞や（その派生である）骨組織の機能不全ではないか」という新規仮説を軸とし、患者および健常対照群の脱落歯検体から間葉系幹細胞を採取し、遺伝子発現プロファイル、液性因子、神経細胞の共培養での挙動などを比較系統することを計画した。本研究により、組織間ネットワークの観点から統合失調症の病態解明や革新的な治療ターゲットとなり得る新しい表現型を同定する予定であったが、新型コロナウイルスの感染流行により検体獲得が困難となり、残念ながら研究遂行ができなかった。 Although schizophrenia is considered a neuropsychiatric disorder, it is suggested that important phenotypes other than central nervous system such as bone and mesenchyme could be existed. Based on the novel hypothesis that "mesenchymal cells and bone tissue (from which schizophrenia is derived) may be dysfunctional in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia", we planned to collect mesenchymal stem cells from deciduous tooth samples from patients and healthy controls, and compare their gene expression profiles, liquid factors, and behavior in neuronal co-cultures. This study was planned to elucidate the pathogenesis of schizophrenia from the viewpoint of inter-tissue networks and to identify new phenotypes that could serve as innovative therapeutic targets. Unfortunately, the study could not be carried out due to difficulties in obtaining specimens because of the outbreak of a new coronavirus infection.
