我が国の現在の持続可能な社会へのエネルギーと環境問題対策のシナリオとしては,石炭・天然ガスおよび原子力エネルギーから次世代の水素・再生可能エネルギーへの転換であり,それと同時にクリーン・コール・テクノロジーが重要なソフトランディングのキーテクノロジとなる。化石燃料の発電所は世界のCO2排出量の4分の1を占めており,民生とくに車などの小型移動体からの排出量削減より,大型集中発生源からの回収が現実的であり,帯水層貯留,炭層固定,海洋隔離などさまざまなCO2分離回収貯留案の研究開発が進められているが,二次環境汚染,安全性さらにエネルギー評価(コスト)が実用化にむけた課題となっている。本研究は,以上の背景のもと低コスト・高効率でかつ低環境負荷のCO2回収固定体(エコ・ブロック)の形成と海洋での魚礁としての藻場造成への利用の技術開発の基礎的知見を得たものである。
