オキシトシンは信頼を基礎とする社会性行動に影響を与える。オキシトシンの脳内分泌を制御するCD38遺伝子の一塩基多型(SNP)を日本人およびアメリカ人の広汎性発達障害者や健常人で調査した。2箇所のSNPが自閉症の危険因子である可能性を見いだした。また、一例で、オキシトシンの投与により一部の症状の改善が見られた。CD38は良い対人関係を構築するのに必須で、一方その不全が社会性障害の原因ではないかと思われる。
