タチツボスミレ類は日本で著しく分化したスミレ属の種群であるが，その範疇に諸説があった。本研究の目的はタチツボスミレ類における種同定の困難さの原因解明にあるが，先ずは対象種を限定して比較検討するためその範疇の解明を試みた。従来本種群とする見解もある北米とヨーロッパの種を採取し，また，本邦産のエゾノタチツボスミレなど本種群の候補種を可能な限り集め，狭義の本種群とともに系統解析を行った。これらから，外見が極めて類似する「北米産ナガハシスミレ」は本邦産ナガハシスミレと大きく異なり，その他の北米，ヨーロッパ産の種類とともにすべてエゾノタチツボスミレ類に分類されるべきことが判明した。
Viola grypoceras and its allies are highly speciated group in Japanese archipelago. To elucidate their species concept, firstly, we tried to clarify the designation of true V. grypoceras species group and the putative closely related V. acuminata group.Viola rostrata was considered to be distributed in both Japan and eastern N. America. Based on SSR analyses, we concluded that Japanese V. rostrata sensu auct is distinctly distinctive species and rather far from N American true V. rostrata. The other viola species, which are classified into so-called V. grypoceras group, occurring in Europe and N America, should also be classified into V. acuminata group.
