ベトナム戦争中に撒布された枯葉剤に含有されたダイオキシン類による環境汚染と健康影響について、GISを用いて疫学研究を2007～2010年に実施した。衛星画像上に枯葉剤撒布の航跡合成地図を作製した。環境調査では対照地区と比較し汚染地区の土壌に微生物が少なく、特異な形態の存在を認めた。健康調査では汚染地区の母親の視力は対照地区に比べて有意に低く、SCEスコアは有意に高く、30年以上経過しても環境や健康への影響を認めた。
The epidemiological studies were conducted using GIS during 2007 and 2010 to clarify the environmental pollution and health effects by dioxins involved in herbicide sprayed in Vietnam War. Digital geographical information has been overlaid with the map made from remote sensing data developed by Landsat. On the environmental research, the number of microorganism in soil of sprayed area was smaller than that in the non-sprayed area and their forms were unique. On the health survey, visual acuity in mothers were significantly lower in the sprayed area than in the non-sprayed area, while sister chromatid exchange(SCE) index was significantly higher in the sprayed area than in the non-sprayed area. After over 35 years have passed, it was found that dioxins have affected Vietnamese environment and health.
