Note (General): ラクタム、3-アルキルインドール、および1,3-ジケトンなどを酸化剤N-tert-butylbenzenesulfinimidoyl chloride (1)によって活性化し、中間体を単離することなくマロン酸エステルなど炭素求核剤を加えることによって、ラクタムの窒素原子のα位、インドール3位のアルキル基上およびカルボニル基のβ位にワンポットで直接炭素-炭素結合を導入できることを明らかにした。つまり、著者らは様々な含窒素化合物を酸化剤1によって酸化し、通常調製困難な中間体を簡便に生成させ、これを単離することなく炭素求核剤と反応させて炭素-炭素結合を形成させる手法を開発した。この手法は、一般に官能基化が困難な位置へ直接炭素-炭素結合を導入できる点が特徴である。
