哺乳類・鳥散布植物、約50種について、それら果実に対するアリ類の行動を観察したところ、雑食性アリ種による多様な効果が観察された。その効果は果実のサイズや形態的特徴によって異なっており、國内の混交林では小サイズの果実はアリ類に運搬される頻度が高かった。またアリ散布へ果実形態を特殊化させた植物種もいる事が示唆された。一方、ボルネオの熱帯林では大型果実に対するクリーニング行動も高頻度で見られ、特にニクズク科ではその効果は果肉のカビ感染の頻度と大きく関係していた。
