基板がグラフェンに有益な物性を発現させるかについて研究を行った。とくに、Ｎｉ基板上の多層グラフェンを研究した結果、基板直上のグラフェンが基板の影響を強く受け、グラフェン単独では極めて小さいスピン軌道相互作用が無視できなくなることを見いだした。さらに、ラシュバ効果の発現等が期待できることを明らかにした。この知見は、今後グラフェンのスピントロニクス応用を考える上で重要である。
We studied how useful physical properties of graphene are induced by substrates. In particular, we find that the spin-orbit interaction which is very small in the free standing graphene is enhanced in the graphene layer which is the nearest to the Ni substrate. As a result, the Rashba effect becomes large. This finding is useful for the spintronics application of graphene.
