渦鞭毛虫ヤコウチュウの核ゲノム及び近縁種であるオキシリスのミトコンドリアゲノム解析を行った。得られたタンパク質をコードする2遺伝子を用いた系統解析は、ヤコウチュウがオキシリスに次いで祖先的であることを明らかにした。一方、オキシリスのミトコンドリアゲノムは数kbのミニサークルDNAとして存在し、ミニサークル当たり1ないし2個の遺伝子をコードする。さらに、総遺伝子数は4個であることが判明した。
Genome analyses of nucleus and mitochondria in ancestral dinoflagellates were carried out. Phylogenetic analyses using 2 available protein-coding genes showed that Noctiluca synthillans is the next earliest branch after Oxyrrhis marina. On the other hand, mitochondrial genome analysis of O.marina revealed several peculiar natures of mtDNA. Oxyrrhis mtDNA consists of various kinds of minicircle with the sizes of～some kb and total number of genes encoded is only 4.
