本研究を通して、モダニズム時代の文学研究に新しい視点を提供することができたと自負している。モビリティとコンタクト・ゾーンという鍵になるふたつの概念を導入することによって、近視眼的ではない広い視点で文学運動としてのモダニズムを捉えなおすことができた。また、人の動きとそれによってもたらされるさまざまな接触（時には交流という形で、時には敵対という形で）が文化テクストの生成にどのような影響を与え、またそれらのテクストにどのようにそうした接触が表象されているかを考察することで、人種、セクシュアリティ、階級の差異によって細分化され分断されているかに見える大戦間期アメリカの文化的風景の見直しを行った。
This research project has successfully provided a new perspective to the critical studies on American literature in the age of modernism. By introducing the key terms, namely, mobility and the contact zone, this project has reexamine modernism as a literary movement from a broader perspective. I have closely investigated how human mobility and a variety of moments of "contact" (which sometimes means an exchange, at other times means a confrontation) it prompts shapes the way literary texts were created. And in so doing I remapped the interwar cultural landscapes of the United States which usually seems to be divided and made fragmentary based on racial, gender, and class differences but in fact more fluid and relational.
