Note (General): シダ類は、古くから異なる種間での交雑を伴う種分化を繰り返してきた。ところが、シダ類のゼンマイ科では、これまでに報告された雑種は、極めて少数である。また、ゼンマイ科では、約1.5億年にわたってゲノムサイズが変化していないことが指摘されており、過去においても雑種形成が制限されてきたと推定される。本研究ではゼンマイ科において、複数の種が同所的に生育すること、生殖期が種間で重なること、実際に人工雑種が形成されることを示した。従って、ゼンマイ科の種間においては、受精後隔離機構が働いていると考えられ、本研究ではその機構として雑種崩壊の可能性を提示した。
Monilophytes (ferns) have been repeatedly speciated through hybrid formations. On the contrary to other ferns, however, hybrids are quite rare in the Osmundaceae. In addition, genome sizes have been stable in the Osmundaceae since the Middle Jurassic (ca. 150 million years ago), thus there could be some mechanisms which hamper a hybrid formation in this family.In this study, we showed in the Osmundaceae: 1) many species synaptically grow, 2) reproductive seasons are overlapped among species, 3) hybrid could be made by artificial crossing. Therefore, barrier for hybrid formation should be post-zygotic in the Osmundaceae. We hypothesized that the post-zygotic barrier would be a hybrid breakdown, which could be happened by loss of chromosome(s) derived from either of the parental species.
