Note (General): 一般的に自然保護区と称される保護地域のなかで、特に民有地において複数の区画にまたがり、所有や利用の形態も多様な性質をもつものについて、理論と実例の両面から検証をおこなった。コスタリカの農村における共有林、北海道東部の河川流域における住民主体の流域再生、カナダにおける住民主導の生物圏保存地域の登録・運営などの事例から、地域住民が自ら組織化し、外部の主体から知識・技術・資金などの支援を得て、地域づくりと自然環境保全を両立させるような保護地域運営をおこなうことが可能であることを示した。
This project examined theory and practice of protected areas spanning across multiple parcels　of　land　with　diverse　structures　of　property　rights.　Learning　from　such cases as a communal forest in rural area of Costa　Rica, community-based watershed restoration in Hokkaido, Japan, and grassroots designation and management of a biosphere reserve in Canada, the project showed possibilities of protected areas contributing both to local development and nature conservation, as a result of combining self-organization of local residents with support from outside.
