Note (General): バングラデシュ・チッタゴンのベンガル沿岸域には世界最大級の船舶解体場が集中し、環境対策のない野ざらしの状態でリサイクルされている。本研究では、この重金属汚染地域において水圏環境のフィールド調査を実施し、汚染の現状や食物連鎖を介した環境への影響の可能性を世界に先駆けて報告した。さらに、複合的な視点から、水環境汚染の実態を記述する評価モデルを構築し、途上国の実情に適した環境対策シナリオを提案した。
Ship Breaking and Recycling Industry (SBRI) in Bangladesh is dismantling majority of the end-of-loe ships by open beaching method. Accordinlgy, ship dismantling carries the blame of releasing potentially toxic elements to coastal and marine environment enrisking the food chain through potnetial bioaccumulation and biomagnification. This study aimed to assess concentrations and seasonal variations of toxic elements in SBRIs in Bangaldesh for their source apportionment by using contamination factor and multivariate statistical analysis beside assessing health risk. The results of this study will help in planning contamination control efforts at yard levels to improve the environmental quality at the SBRIs in Bangladesh. The results could also be used in planning better occupational safety for the people active in the ship breaking yards both in Bangladesh and elsewhere.
