Note (General): 非弾性電子トンネル分光法は単一分子の振動分光を可能にする超感度の分光法である。本研究は、この分光法の有用性を高めるため、原子間力顕微鏡法と走査型トンネル顕微鏡法による非弾性電子トンネル分光を組み合わせ、金属探針が表面上の単一の一酸化炭素分子に及ぼす力と、力を及ぼされた分子の振動エネルギーの変化の関係を測定した。更に、古典論をもとにしたモデルにより実験結果の解釈を行い、探針からの摂動場の影響に加えて、探針からの力により分子のボンドがのびるという効果を取り入れることで、実験結果が大変よく再現できることを示した。本内容は、重要な総合学術誌である米国科学アカデミー紀要において報告した。
We have investigated the relationship between the force exerted on a single carbon monoxide molecule on a copper surface and the vibrational energy shift of the CO molecule by combining Atomic Force Microscopy and Inelastic Electron Tunneling Spectroscopy based on Scanning Tunneling Microscopy. We have interpreted the vibrational energy shifts of a CO molecule based on the classical pendulum model, where we found that the experimental energy shifts are well reproduced by considering the bond elongation effect in addition to the forced field perturbation. The result was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America 115 (2018) 4571-4576.
