本研究は、日本列島を中心とした東アジアにおける動物の家畜化および家畜利用に関する総合的な研究を推進してきた。イヌ・ブタ・ウマに焦点をあて、遺跡から出土する各家畜種の骨および歯から、生存時の生態学的情報および遺伝学的情報を抽出するための方法論およびその応用を実施した。日本列島における最古の埋葬犬である上黒岩岩陰遺跡出土犬骨の分析を実施し、縄文早期のヒトとイヌの関わり合いについて、初めて直接的なデータに基づいて評価することができた。ウマにおいては古墳時代におけるゲノムデータの取得および雑穀接種率の評価を、ブタでは琉球列島における分析を通して、今までには見ることができなかった家畜利用の復元を行った。
This research has promoted comprehensive research on animal domestication and use of animals in East Asia, especially Japanese archipelago. Focusing on dogs, pigs and horses, we established methodology to reconstruct ecological niche and genetic information, and applied to animal remains excavated from Japan, Korea, China. The analysis of dog remains from the Kamikuroiwa rochshelter site, the oldest burried dog in the Japanese archipelago, was carried out, and we evaluated the relation between Jomon people and dogs based on direct evidence. The genetic and isotopic analysis was carried out with horse remains in the Kofun period. The analysis of pid remains from the Ryukyu Islands was carried out to reconstruct the use of domestic animal.
