クリエイティブツーリズムとはマスツーリズムの弊害を避け、地域固有の文化資源を生かした新しいタイプのツーリズムであり、ツーリストと地域住民とが感動や体験を共有することにより新たな価値を生み出し、地域の持続的発展に貢献するものである。これを世界に先駆けて提唱し、推進している米国サンタフェ市では、行政、アート関係者、ホテル観光業界が連携してギャラリー・アトリエ・美術館を訪問する多様なツアーコースが提供されている。この取り組みはユネスコ創造都市ネットワークを通じて広がり、日本では同ネットワークに加盟する金沢市、篠山市などでの取り組みが始まっており都市連携の可能性が高まっている。
Avoiding an evil of mass tourism, the creative tourism is a new type of tourism which made use of local inherent culture resources and brings about the new value through sharing an impression and an experience by a tourist and local peoples, and contributes to sustainable regional development.US Santa Fe city proposes creative tourism ahead of the world and promotes it. City, art organisation, hotel and sightseeing industry cooperate to crate diverse tour courses that visit a gallery atelier and the art museum.The creative tourism plan spread through UNESCO creative cities network, and in Japan, an creative tourism project in Kanazawa city and Sasayama city which join UNESCO network begins and possibility of the city cooperation increases.
