高次脳機能における糖鎖の役割を明らかにするために様々な糖鎖遺伝子の改変マウスを用いて,行動実験を中心に解析を行なった。β4GalT-2欠損マウスやC6ST-1 Tgマウスでは新奇刺激に対する過敏性や注意機能の異常が認められ,ドーパミン系の異常が示唆された。脳特異的β4GalT-5とβ4GalT-6欠損マウスでは活動性の変化や注意機能の異常が見られ,ミエリン形成の異常が示唆された。このように糖鎖は高次脳機能に重要な役割を持っていることが明らかとなった。
To elucidate the role of carbohydrates in higher brain functions, we investigated glycogene-manipulated mice using behavioral analysis. β4GalT-2 KO mice and C6ST-1 Tg mice showed hypersensitive to novel stimuli and disturbed attention, and were suggested to be impaired in the dopamine system. β4GalT-5 KO mice and β4GalT-6 KO mice showed abnormal activity and disturbed attention, and were suggested to be impaired in myelin formation. These results indicated that carbohydrates play an important role in higher brain functions.
