腫瘍に侵された骨組織を液体窒素で凍結させると腫瘍は死滅することがすでに報告されている。今回、イヌの動物実験において、脊椎の再建に液体窒素で凍結した骨を使用したところ、新鮮な骨を用いるよりも骨癒合の速度は遅かったものの、新鮮骨と同様に完全な骨癒合が得られることが判明した。これにより腫瘍脊椎骨全摘術において、摘出した腫瘍に侵された脊椎骨を液体窒素で凍結し、移植骨として使用しても問題なく骨癒合すると言える。
It has been reported that tumor cells were completely killed by freezing in liquid nitrogen for 20 minutes. We packed autograft treated with liquid nitrogen or fresh auto graft into a cage used for vertebral body reconstruction in canine experiment. Fusion results of the autograft treated with liquid nitrogen group were nearly identical to the fresh autologous group. Therefore, autograft treated with liquid nitrogen is as beneficial as fresh autograft for total en bloc spondylectomy for spinal tumor.
