具体的内容と成果:前年度に引き続き,日本国内の角せん石に富む岩石,およびイタリア・フィネロかんらん岩体に関する野外調査,試料の解析をおこなった。日本の試料,特に,九州北部志賀島から産出する試料に関して詳細な報告を行い,島弧深部に角せん石に富む超苦鉄質岩が存在する事を指摘し,その成果をJournal of Petrology誌に発表した。また,イタリアのフィネロかんらん岩体に関しては,かんらん岩周囲に密接に伴う角せん石に富む岩石を詳細に検討し,それらの領域が,岩石-流体反応で形成された可能性を指摘した。意義と重要性:日本列島のような島弧の下部地殻/上部マントル付近には,角せん石に富む岩石が分布している可能性を検証するのが本研究の目的であった。また,その角せん石に富む岩石が産するならば,その角せん石を形成する流体の特徴と起源を明らかにすることも目的であった。本研究によって,日本列島の下部地殻周辺に,角せん石に富む超苦鉄質岩が分布している物証を示し,かつ,その流体が陸弧で形成されるようなマグマと岩石の反応によって形成されたものである可能性をしめした。これらの結果は,日本列島のような火山弧を形成する際の地下深部での現象の理解を助け,また,大陸地殻へと変遷して行く過程を考える上で重要な情報をもたらすことが期待される。また,既存の水成分を含まない岩石と水を主成分とする流体との反応によって含水鉱物として水や水とともに動く元素が固定されるのに加えて,シリカ成分の付加が,やはり、フィネロ岩体周辺の岩石類からも観察された事から,流体-岩石反応によるシリカ成分の付加は,島弧環境下では普遍的に起きている現象であることが示された。
