細胞内カルシウムストアーからの放出には、イノシトール3リン酸受容体を介した放出(IP3 induced Ca release ; IICR)と、リアノジン受容体を介した放出(Ca induced Ca release ; CICR)の2種類がある。これらの受容体を介して放出されるカルシウムの量は、ストアーのカルシウム充填状態により影響を受けると考えられるため、ストアーの充填状態を左右する因子の探索をおこなった。このために実験系として小脳プルキンエ細胞を用いた。マウス小脳からスライスを切り出し、小脳プルキンエ細胞からホールセルパッチクランプ法で記録をとり、記録電極からカルシウム蛍光指示薬を細胞内に充填した。平行線維連発刺激(100Hz,5発)によりシナプス直下に存在する代謝型グルタミン酸受容体1型(mGluR1)を活性化してIICRをおこし、このIICRがストアー充填に影響を与えるような各実験操作でどのように変化するかを調べた。同じカルシウムストアー上に存在するリアノジン受容体の活性化の影響を調べるために、受容体をopen lockすることが知られているリアノジンを投与する実験を行った。その結果、平行線維によるIICRが刺激回数依存的に減少することが明らかになった。この結果は、リアノジン受容体の活動によりストアー内のカルシウム充填率が調節され、間接的に代謝型グルタミン酸によるIICRを調整している可能性を示唆する。
