地震発生を理解する上で重要な地下の断層構造を解明するため、横ずれ断層における断層構造の特徴を重力異常データから抽出する方法を開発した。1943年鳥取地震の震源断層や中央構造線断層帯讃岐山脈南縁部を対象とした重力測定を行い、一部地域において横ずれ断層に特徴的な重力異常解析結果を得た。また、測定された重力異常データに基づく複数の重力異常解析結果の組み合わせから地下の断層構造のセグメント境界を抽出できる可能性を示した。これらの成果は地震規模の予測の高度化に資するものである。
To clarify subsurface fault structures, which is important in understanding the generation process of earthquakes, we have developed a method to highlight the features of fault structures on the strike-slip fault from gravity anomaly data. We conducted gravity measurements around the source faults of the 1943 Tottori earthquake and the southern boundary of the Sanuki Mountains of the Median Tectonic Line fault zone. In some areas, we obtained results of gravity anomaly analyses, which characterize strike-slip faults. We also demonstrated that the combination of results of several gravity anomaly analyses has the potential to highlight the segment boundary of subsurface fault structure. These findings are useful to improve the estimate of the size of earthquakes.
