時間判断の対象となる視覚刺激の直前と直後ともに，課題に関連しない聴覚刺激または視覚刺激が提示されると，知覚時間が短縮するという現象がある。本研究では，この視覚的な時間間隔知覚の短縮効果において，知覚的群化と刺激強度の重要性を明らかにした。また，この現象における感覚内(視覚内)相互作用と感覚間（視聴覚間）相互作用の影響は異なる機序を持つことも示した。
When the visual target is sandwiched by the task-irrelevant visual or auditory stimulus, the perceived duration of the visual stimulus decrease (subjective shortening effect: SSE). This research project showed the importance of perceptual grouping and stimulus intensity for SSE. Furthermore, it has shown that visual-induced SSE and auditory-induced SSE have different mechanisms.
