本研究では、従来、大学の組織構造に関する制度的変遷や機能分析をテーマとした学術的研究が中心で、大学経営や大学教育の日常的課題に焦点を当てた研究が皆無な状況に着目し、大学教員と大学職員が協働する運営体制づくり（教職協働）を超えて、大学構成員である学生との協働実践を含めた新しい姿（教職学協働）を明確化し、大学現場が直面する組織開発（OD）の担い手のあり方を探求した。研究成果として、大学教員・大学職員・学生が協働する参加型組織経営をファシリテートする組織開発（OD）の方法論及び実践事例を蓄積し、新たな提言を行ったほか、日米共同研究により、両国のFD活動の特徴や相違点を明らかにすることができた。
In Japan, there was a tendency that the academic research had focused on the systems and functions of university organization compared with the practical research focusing on the ordinal tasks of university management and education. Therefore, this study searched for some roles for organizational development in universities recognizing the new framework such as practical collaboration between faculty, administrator and student. Our research team could collect some methods and practical tips for participatory university management with faculty, administrator and student. This research suggested new direction of roles for organizational development in Japanese Universities, and clarified some features and differences of faculty development in Japan and US.
