In vitro実験系において、TGF-β1添加処理によって悪性化を誘導した胃癌細胞株MKN45からmiRNAを抽出し、RNAの包括的な解析法であるマイクロアレイ解析したところ、157種類のmiRNAの発現上昇と162種類の発現が減少したmiRNAを確認した。発現が上昇したmiRNAのうち約30種類については、胃癌の悪性化を進行するといった報告がなく、これらのmiRNA種が悪性化に関与する新規の胃癌バイオマーカー候補となり得ると示唆された。
